A "cala" is a circular or oval coastal inlet with a narrow entrance, and colloquially used for a sheltered bay. Calas or coves are the result of wawes attacking the weakness of rocks, infiltrating them to result in inlets, which further erode to form a circular bay with a narrow entrance.
Calas are specific in the Mediterranean area such as the ones of the Costa Brava which were used by smugglers during the Spanish Civil War.
Nowadays, they are fabulous remote site for a quiet swim in clear transparent water, and perfect as a picknick place during a "puente".
