The highest peak is Puig Major (1445m) within the Serra de Tramuntana, rugged and with many cliffs, that blocks the northern winds and shading the fertile plain El Pla, and three large bays (Palma, Alcudia, Pollença) and many little calas (coves).
Since 1950's, the tourism business has become the main source of revenue in the island (80%).
Olives and almonds are typicall of the Mallorcan diet, and specialties are the sobrasada and the ensaimada.
Away from the tourists' track, it was thrilling to discover shaded pick nick areas with a natural fountain in the mountains, secluded coves covered with dried algae, counting falling stars every night and awaking the the foot of a lighthouse with tremendous view on the pristine water.
